Free Spirit

Dancing through life with laughter

Happiness (with the bluebirds) is a popular piece, so I wanted to show happiness in another way. Movement and dancing connote freedom and joy of life. A lot of little girls go through a 'high twirl' stage — when every one of them wants to be a princess or a ballerina — when they seem to float and dance rather than walk. This demonstrative gesture might capture that time. Or, it might reflect an adult’s personality — someone we would call a ‘free spirit’. I see the word Spirit as free will, enthusiasm and energy; an upbeat frame of mind. This would be a nice piece for someone entering a new phase of life, such as after retirement or divorce… I hope the piece will universally express joy, freedom and happiness at any age.
